Dear Readers,
After much deliberation, gnashing of teeth, and an all-too-long denial stage, we’ve decided to finally really let go of our beloved moniker, The Mean Journal. This is only because our branding had grown a bit too confusing for our audience. “Is it MeanPepperVine or The Mean Journal or MPV?” people would ask. And we can no longer stick to our usual reply: “It can be any or all of that.”
The last thing we want is to confuse our audience. So, as we take this step toward building a more cohesive image, we thank our beloved readers and writers for your passionate feedback, and for helping us shape the identity of our labour of love. MeanPepperVine it is, then!
I feel like a momma bear who has reluctantly let her baby out into the world—to explore, grow, and evolve. But I have a strong feeling we’re going to be alright.
And as for the question, “Why MeanPepperVine?”—that’s a story for another day. It involves a farm in Moodbidri, a girl on a solo trip who didn’t know that peacocks roost on rooftops at night, the Basel Mission, a very long power cut, and of course, some very mean pepper vines. We’ll get to that story soon enough. Promise!
